Theatre Royal Brighton

Theatre Royal Brighton, one of the oldest and most distinguished theatres in the country, celebrated its bicentenary year in 2007, with world premieres, new productions, commissioned shows and special events.

Brighton has always been a theatrical town and Theatre Royal Brighton, the symbol of its theatrical heritage, has taken the “leading role” for over 200 years.

The history of Theatre Royal Brighton represents a microcosm of British theatre and most leading actors and actresses have performed here.

In celebration of this major anniversary, the city of Brighton & Hove completed its cultural quarter, centred on Theatre Royal Brighton, the Royal Pavilion, Brighton Museum & Art Gallery, Dome Arts Complex and Jubilee Library. New Road, which unites Theatre Royal Brighton with The Royal Pavilion Estate, opened as a pedestrianised area in 2007, creating a focus on this famous theatre and enhancing Brighton’s vibrant cultural economy.
