ASF Weave

ASF Weave, a charitable trust with international patrons and advisors, was set up in September 2001. Projects for industry, science, art and education were explored by the Director, the Executive Group and a team of award winning weave designers chosen from the most exciting new talent. ASF Weave helped forward-thinking companies in the textile industry to stand out from the competition by providing highly creative designs to enhance their products, thereby raising the profile and design quality of woven textiles in this country and beyond.

Through the surface

Through the surface: collaborating artists from Britain and Japan was a major project directed by Lesley Millar, an authority on both UK and Japanese textiles. Initiated in 2002, this venture has explored points of difference and similarity between the cultures of Britain and Japan through the ideas and working methods of textile artists. Seven young practitioners, representing outstanding talent from the new generation, travelled to work with seven major international artists in the opposite country.

Reiko Sudo and NUNO

Sudo’s quintessentially 21st century textiles unite traditional techniques, complex technologies and new finishing processes. She has created extraordinary visual effects that have revolutionised textiles within interiors, fashion and art. NUNO has been at the heart of the resurgence of Japanese textiles, producing fabrics of unparalleled sophistication and creativity.
